DECEMBER 2024 NEWSLETTER

Celebrating Milestones Together

As 2024 comes to a close, it is an ideal time to thank everyone who has supported the Antonio Tsialas Leadership Foundation (ATLF) mission of ending hazing through the practice of compassionate leadership. Reflecting on the year, we are pleased to share a number of accomplishments made possible by our team, ambassadors, partners, and supporters.

  • Four groups of students completed the yearlong ATLF Ambassador’s Program. Designed to raise hazing awareness and develop compassionate leadership skills, Ambassadors are empowered to spread the foundation’s message to their peers and communities.

  • Eight local high school students who shared and demonstrated Antonio’s passion for leadership and community service earned the ATLF Compassionate Leadership College Scholarships.

  • Antonio Tsialas ‘23 Hazing Prevention Week was established with Cornell University and is held on campus annually to provide hazing prevention training for fraternity and sorority leaders.

  • Initiated at Ransom Everglades School, the Antonio Tsialas ’19 Leadership Endowment Fund sponsors year-round education on compassionate leadership to student leaders and hazing prevention for senior students.

  • ATLF has trained students in compassionate leadership at local schools and organizations including: Ransom Everglades, Miami Country Day School, Carrollton School, Cushman School, Palmer Trinity School, BridgePrep Academy, GW Carver Middle and Elementary Schools, South Miami Middle School, Pinecrest Youth Advisory Council, Bank of America, University of Miami, Cornell University, and the Greek Orthodox Youth Organization.

  • ATLF Parent Ambassadors have participated in training developed to initiate crucial conversations with families and peers about compassionate leadership and hazing awareness.

  • ATLF has formed powerful partnerships established in the realm of hazing prevention with national leaders including the Gordie Center at the University of Virginia, StopHazing at University of Maine, and the law office of Stewart, Tilghman, Fox, Bianchi & Cain.

  • Along with our partners, ATLF hosts Zoom Roundtable talks during Hazing Prevention Week for students, parents, and educators to discuss the legal aspects of hazing, hazing prevention, and alcohol abuse.

  • ATLF created the CLEARING Model to help students define the pillars of compassionate leadership and place them in action.

  • ATLF presented Compassionate Leadership as an approach to hazing prevention for athletes at the APPLE Athletics event in Orlando.

  • In partnership with the Gordie Center, ATLF produced an informative video to help students identify groups and organizations that will contribute to a positive campus life and allow for meaningful connections.

  •  A documentary chronicling Antonio’s story, life and legacy shared the dangers of on-campus hazing.

  • ATLF supported ATLF college ambassador Maria Olloqui with the production of her documentary, Pressures of the Greek Life System: The Tragedy of Antonio Tsialas.

  • ATLF actively lobbied on the hill in Washington D.C. in support of the Stop Campus Hazing Act that passed unanimously in the House of Representatives, and it is in the Senate for consideration.

Our journey toward change continues, and we need your help to keep moving forward. Cultural transformation requires a unified effort, and your support is invaluable. By donating to the Antonio Tsialas Leadership Foundation, you contribute to making our campuses safer and more inclusive. Every offering contributes to change and has the potential to save lives and foster a culture of care. Hazing is preventable. Together, we say yes to life!

Thank you for leading with love and compassion!

ATLF AMBASSADORS’ CORNER

ATLF Ambassadors learn to build belongingness, trust, respect, collaboration, and effective communication. After developing these tools for compassionate leadership, ATFL ambassadors teach other students in our schools and communities not only about the effects of hazing but also how creating a sense of belonging and trust can prevent it.

As an ambassador, I have learned the importance of collaboration, kindness, and inclusivity. I have worked with other ambassadors to further our mission and learn from each other. ATLF has affected my life, thought process, and relationships with others, and I am grateful to be able to call myself an ATLF ambassador.

Hazing Prevention for SFL Leaders at Cornell University

Each year, we honor Antonio by presenting to fraternity and sorority leaders during Hazing Prevention Week at CornellUniversity. We hope that by sharing the pillars of compassionate leadership, we can help create safe spaces.

This year we were proud to present along with Dr. Lori Hart, a champion of promoting health and safety on college campuses for over three decades. Her speech, “Let’s Fix It,” emphasized the urgency of this issue.

Although speaking at Cornell is always emotional for us, we are grateful for the caring leaders and the opportunity to inspire change. Thank you to the leadership at Cornell University for making space for transformative.

Hazing Prevention for Seniors at BridgePrep Academy

In November, the Class of 2025 at BridgePrep Academy, explored the power of compassionate leadership in preventing hazing and creating lasting change.

Special thanks to Mr. Callesis for sharing his personal story and the impact Antonio had in his life. Thank you also to Ms. Lirilli and Mrs. Rodriguez, for their warm welcome and support.

The students’ engagement, interactions, and reflections give us hope for the future!

We look forward to continuing to create safe spaces at BridgePrep Academy and other schools, where we can all practice compassionate leadership.

Our Fall Garage Sale was a powerful reminder of how compassion connects and brings people together.

A huge thank you to our ATLF ambassadors, board members, families, friends, and neighbors for their time, support and donations.

We met incredible people who supported our mission and paid it forward by helping others in need.

This event strengthened community connections, raised awareness about hazing and provided vital funds for our leadership programs and scholarships!
