Gratitude as a Bridge to Connection and Change

ree

Gratitude, the G in our CLEARING Model, is an important pillar for compassionate leadership. When we express sincere gratitude to our team members, we create a culture of mutual respect, safety, and trust. When a leader expresses gratitude, members feel seen and appreciated.

An environment of gratitude allows all members to feel valued which boosts morale and enhances overall productivity. In fact, research by Gallop and Workhuman in 2024, evaluated the most important factors in employee retention and found that an environment that expresses gratitude through regular employee recognition reduces employee turnover by 45 percent. Gratitude is a powerful teambuilder!

Every act of gratitude,  appreciation and recognition inspires members to do the same.  Members feel empowered to collaborate and innovate. Leaders who celebrate the contributions and gifts of all members foster an environment that encourages initiative, learning and growth.

In leadership and in life, gratitude helps us improve our sense of belonging, promotes well-being, and creates spaces where meaningful and compassionate relationships are possible.

This Thanksgiving season when we pause to celebrate with our loved ones and give thanks for our abundance, let us reflect on everything for which we are grateful and extend compassion to everyone around us.

Take ONE action to express gratitude today:

• Write a note of thanks to someone who has helped you

• Begin a gratitude journal, reflecting on what you are grateful for

•Lead your group by example, offering sincere thanks to those who make a difference

• Start a conversation about how gratitude is essential to compassionate leadership within your organization

• Support our efforts and make a donation of any size on Give Miami Day

We are grateful to all who are taking steps to lead with compassion and prevent hazing. Thank you!

Give Miami Day ATLF

We are very excited to be participating in Give Miami Day for the first time this year.  This community-wide fundraising event, on Thursday, November 20, organized by the Miami Foundation, rallies donors to support local not-for-profit organizations. We will use the funds raised to launch the ONE Campaign and to fund our annual scholarships.

CLEARING the Way to Compassionate Collaboration

for Sophomores at Ransom Everglades

ree

Our ambassadors, Bella, Garrett and Christopher led sophomores through the Collaboration Module of our Compassionate Leadership program at Ransom Everglades. Each contributed their individual gifts while united in purpose: leading together as ONE.

Students explored how personal and shared values shape teamwork, connection, communication, and creativity.

We are grateful to Ms. Izaguirre, Ms. Pena and the administrators, faculty and students at South Miami Middle School for inviting us to stand together in support of Mental Health Awareness Day. We presented “Clearing the Way to Compassionate Leadership—Becoming an Upstander.”  We were inspired by the student’s active participation and insightful questions!

 “A Recipe for Compassionate Leadership”

at the University of Miami

ree

What a joy it was to be with the students, faculty and staff at the University of Miami Ibis Residence Hall! Through Antonio’s story and our program “A Recipe for Compassionate Leadership,” students explored their personal values and crafted their own “recipes” for fostering kindness and healthy connections. They remind us that compassion is one of the most powerful ingredients for change. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Cristina Espinoza-Alguera for inviting us and Dr. Knechts, the residence life team and students at University of Miami for embracing us with such warmth.

ATLF Partners' Corner

ree

ATLF is proud to partner with some of the nation’s top hazing prevention experts, united in our quest for change.  Periodically, we share this space to spotlight their work and introduce our supporters to other organizations that are making our campuses safer.

Greetings from StopHazing! We’re dedicated to promoting safe, inclusive, and positive group climates through research, resource sharing, and developing data-driven strategies for hazing prevention.

As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Stop Campus Hazing Act (SCHA), gratitude feels like the perfect theme. We are deeply thankful to everyone who played a role in advancing this transformative legislation. The SCHA is already making a difference –helping campuses educate their communities, increase transparency, and build leadership skills that prevent hazing and promote belonging.

We’re especially grateful to the Antonio Tsialas Leadership Foundation (ATLF) for their continued collaboration and shared commitment to preventing hazing and fostering compassionate leadership. Leadership development is at the heart of healthy, inclusive group dynamics, and ATLF’s mission – to empower young adults to positively influence and learn from one another – perfectly complements our work.

We’re continually inspired by ATLF’s students and ambassadors who demonstrate courageous, compassionate leadership. It’s rewarding to see the impact of their engagement and to support their efforts with our hazing prevention and leadership workshop tools.

Thank you to the ATLF community, and to everyone reading this, for your leadership and dedication to creating safer, more inclusive environments. We are truly grateful for this partnership and for the shared vision of a world free from hazing.
